A trip to Key West ticks many of the boxes on every traveler's bucket list. There is an amazing variety of marine life, including colorful tropical fish, sea sponges, bottlenose dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, and much more. Snorkelers will relish a visit to Florida's coral reef, the world's third-largest living coral reef. Consider taking a boat charter out to the Dry Tortugas National Park for snorkeling, and be sure to get your National Park passport stamp. There is a laid-back vibe here that transports you from the stress of everyday life. Leave your shoes at the hotel, grab a fruity little umbrella drink and leave your worries behind. Take a sunset cruise to watch the absolutely stunning sunsets. Take part in the legendary nightlife. You may be surprised to know that Key West actually has the most bartenders per capita in the nation. There is also a lively food scene here. Don't forget to save room for the Key Lime Pie for dessert! If lounging on the beach is not for you, there are many historical sites to visit. Take time to climb to the top of the lighthouse, which was built in 1847. Several good museums here are dedicated to the famous people who called this charming place home.

Private Budget Friendly Key West Small Boat Sandbar Hop
Experience the beauty of the sandbars around Key West on a private small-boat adventure designed for couples, families, or small groups of up to four guests. This trip is the most affordable private charter option we offer—perfect if you want the fun of a sandbar tour without the cost of a larger boat. Your captain will take you on a scenic ride through the turquoise backcountry waters before arriving at some of the most stunning shallow sandbars in the Florida Keys. Many of these spots feature crystal-clear water that’s often ankle- to knee-deep, making them perfect for relaxing, swimming, floating, and enjoying the tropical atmosphere. Why This Tour Is Special Our Robalo Cayman 206 is smaller than typical charter boats, which means it can glide into super-shallow areas and hidden sandbars that bigger boats simply can’t reach. The shallow draft allows us to explore calm backcountry waters, mangrove islands, and quiet sandbars where you can step right into the warm, clear water and relax like a local. A Relaxed, Private Experience Unlike crowded group tours, this is your own private boat and captain. Whether you want to swim, play music, explore mangrove islands, or simply float with a drink in hand, the trip is tailored to your pace. Guests consistently describe sandbar trips in Key West as fun, relaxing, and one of the highlights of their vacation, often spending hours swimming, listening to music, and enjoying the beautiful water. What You’ll See Depending on weather and tides, we may visit several famous local sandbars and backcountry spots, including shallow areas near mangrove islands or social sandbars where locals gather on sunny days. Many sandbars are just a short boat ride from the marina, making it easy to spend most of the trip enjoying the water instead of traveling. The Best Value Private Charter This tour was designed to offer the best value private sandbar experience in Key West. You still get the same beautiful water, great captain, and unforgettable sandbar atmosphere—but on a smaller boat that keeps the trip simple, intimate, and budget-friendly. Bring your drinks, snacks, sunscreen, and good vibes—we’ll take care of the rest.Sales Pitch
If you’re looking for a fun, private boat day in Key West without the high charter price, this tour is the perfect option. Our small-boat sandbar trip is designed for couples, families, and small groups who want the same beautiful sandbars and crystal-clear water as larger charters—just in a more affordable and intimate setting.
You’ll cruise through the calm turquoise backcountry waters before stopping at some of the best shallow sandbars around Key West. Because the Robalo Cayman 206 has a shallow draft, it can reach skinny water and quiet sandbars that bigger boats often can’t access. That means more time relaxing in clear, warm water and discovering spots many visitors never see.
This is a completely private trip, so the experience is tailored to you. Want to float in the shallows, explore mangrove islands, listen to music, or just relax with a drink in hand? Your captain will customize the trip based on the weather, tides, and what you’d like to do.
The trip is also easy to fit into your vacation schedule. In just a few hours you can visit beautiful sandbars, swim in warm tropical water, and enjoy the laid-back island atmosphere that makes Key West famous.
If you want a simple, fun, and budget-friendly way to experience the sandbars like a local, this private small-boat adventure is one of the best values on the water.

Day 1: Typical Itinerary (3-4 Hour Private Sandbar Trip)
Please note: Every trip is a little different. Weather, wind, and tides play a major role in where we go and which sandbars we visit. Your captain will choose the best locations for the day to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience. 1. Meet & Departure Meet your captain at the marina for a quick safety briefing before boarding the boat. Once underway, you’ll cruise through the beautiful turquoise waters surrounding Key West. 2. Scenic Cruise Through the Backcountry Enjoy a relaxing ride through shallow backcountry waters and mangrove islands. Along the way, keep an eye out for local wildlife such as seabirds, rays, and sometimes dolphins. 3. First Sandbar Stop Anchor at a shallow sandbar where you can step right into clear, warm water. Relax, swim, float, and enjoy the tropical atmosphere. 4. Scenic Cruise Back to the Marina After a fun time on the water, enjoy a scenic cruise back to the marina while taking in the views of the Keys.Included

The first sandbar we’ll stop at is just about 25 minutes from our marina, and there are so many interesting things waiting for us on this journey that it's hard not to enjoy every minute! We'll also cruise around some other sights in between stops. See the mangrove trails of Mud Keys and go mingle with locals at Snipe Point sandbar after. You will not want this day to be over. At Mud Keys, get a taste of how our best destinations look like without spending too much time while keeping the budget low, and you still get the best possible boat and service. You will not want this day to be over, so pack your camera and get ready for an adventure! After 30 minutes boat ride from Key West, we arrive at a mangrove maze made out of a series of islands approximately 11 miles northeast of Key West. Explore the beauty while enjoying some snorkeling or just relax on a beach with crystal clear waters and fine golden sand underneath. At Snipe Point, get access to the huge, beautiful sandbar and a gorgeous beach area. Very tricky to get to, so boat renters are not gonna bother you there. You will meet a lot of locals bringing their families to relax. Both of our boats are new, pretty, and very high-end. They are also identical so everybody gets the same first-class service.

Hopping Sandbars In Key West
What a perfect day to take a boat ride! You will see not one but several different sandbars on this tour! It will only take 25 minutes to get there on our epic adventure, and we can stop as long as you want at those sandbars that interest you the most. This is something you cannot miss! Experience the mangrove trails of Mud Keys and hang out with locals at Snipe Point after. You won't want the day to end.Sales Pitch
The mangrove trails at Mud Keys and the sandbar at Snipe Point--things can't get any better than this! The itinerary is ultimately affected by both the booked trip length as well as the season and weather conditions. Generally, we start the trip by taking a 30-minute boat ride from our marina. First, you'll love seeing the crystal clear Jewish Basin sandbars, where it's shallow enough to enjoy the water and ankle-deep at most. Following that, we'll cruise through the beautiful mud keys before spending a majority of our free time at Snipe Point, the locals' favorite sandbar. Finally, we're going back to the marina feeling fantastic after a day well spent.

FAQs
Are we guaranteed to go to all destinations mentioned in the itinerary?
Unfortunately not. All trips are weather permitting and sometimes the itinerary would need to be modified so we can avoid rough and choppy waters.
Is Snipe Point accessible in any weather conditions?
Because to get to Snipes we have to run in deeper gulf waters, this sandbar is not accessible during days of N, NW and NE winds. If we can’t get you there, we would offer to modify your itinerary so you would still have a very enjoyable boat tour.
What is the difference between the 3 hour and 4 hour sandbar hopping trip?
On the 4 hours trip you get more time to relax and enjoy sandbar stops.
Are we going to have the sandbars all to ourselves?
Usually not. There’s only a handful of these gorgeous destinations so they are often visited by local boat owners. The traffic is usually higher during weekends and holidays. The 3-hour trip goes to sandbars that are a little closer to Key West like Jewfish Sandbar and Mud Key. The 4-hour trip adds Snipe Point to the list.

Key West Sunset Cruise
Ocean, meet our captain! One of the best things about the backcountry waters is how it’s never too crowded. So jump in and enjoy the peacefulness and remoteness as you stand in the "middle of the ocean" with nothing but water around you. Optionally, bring some champagne to enjoy with the sunset as a backdrop. Then, just sit back and relax as you cruise on out into the middle of nowhere, leaving behind any stress or worries.Sales Pitch
Still looking for that perfect experience? Well, then come on aboard the Sunset Cruise and see sandbars in a whole new light. Our captain has just the plan for you! We'll take you out in the backcountry waters further than any other boat in these parts. The sandbars are ours to explore, and this is your chance to get some incredible shots of one of nature's most pristine landscapes when the sun sets right behind you. It's something extraordinary, don't wait another minute!

FAQs
How deep is the water on the sandbar where we would watch the sunset?
Depends on the tide. On low tide it’ll be ankle deep, on high tide up to your waist or your belly. Either time you are welcome to hop into the water and watch the sun go down.
Is it going to be pitch black on the boat ride back after the sunset?
No. We will start riding back shortly after the sun disappears. We will have about 30 minutes of twilight time to safely get back to the marina.
Are we allowed to bring snacks and alcohol?
Yes. You are welcome to bring your own beer, wine, snacks etc. We will put it on ice for you.
What if the weather is bad?
We would modify the itinerary, reschedule or cancel and refund – depending on the weather conditions and what you would want to do.

FAQs
Is it worth it to go on the boat for just two hours?
Absolutely! Even though this boat trip is short – it goes to the beautiful destination.
Since this boat tour goes to Mud Keys, which is a bird sanctuary, will we see birds?
Usually YES, however birds are in the keys seasonally and it also depends on other factors like tides etc.
Can we do this tour when it is windy?
To some extend YES. To get to Mud Key we run in 2-3 feet of water for the entire time so even on a windy day there will be no big waves and the boat ride will be very comfortable. Mud Key has lots of Red Mangroves that protect from the wind for the time of the cruise and on the anchor.

I came to this company on the recommendation of friends and I can say right away that I don't regret it. On site, we found a very professional approach to customers. The direct care of the captains who took care of every detail of the escapade, from setting out to sea until mooring the boat upon return, gave me a sense of security and as a passenger I could only focus on having fun and had a great time on the boat. Regarding the boat in which I spent this nice trip, it was very clean, with comfortable seats and various other amenities for the passenger. I can recommend everyone to use the services of this company.

This was THE best boating charter experience from start to finish. We're a family of 8. Not the ideal number for a private boating experience in Key West. But KWBT and Pavel made it exceptionally easy and a totally enjoyable 4 hours. We visited Jewfish Basin and the Mud Keys at our own pace and were impressed by the beauty and the calm of a perfect day. Our 2 boats and their captains were highly experienced boaters and excellent guides, in particular Captain Schuffy. If you can request him for a future trip you won't be disappointed in any way. We'd do this again without hesitation, my highest rating!

This was one of the best experiences on our trip. Captain Diane was super friendly, accommodating, and a blast to spend a couple of hours with. We loved the sand bar time and even saw a stingray! This was definitely worth the cost to have the entire boat to yourself. Highly recommended!

My wife, my son and his girlfriend (both 27) and I went out with Pavel and the kids rode the e-foil boards. They had an amazing time. Pavel and the kids all had helmets and could talk to each other. Pavel was very good at giving instructions and they progressed from prone to knees to eventually standing up and riding the boards. They had a blast. The boat ride out and back was also fun. It was a very nice 27 foot boat with plenty of room for the 5 of us. This was the highlight of the trip.

We had a BLAST on the Key West Dinner Cruise! I HIGHLY recommend it. We went swimming at Mud Key, ate fresh catch shrimp tacos, and saw an AMAZING sunset. Ask for Pawel "Pavel". He was VERY attentive to our requests and went that extra mile. I would absolutely do again.

We had a great experience with Key West Boat Trips learning how to efoil. The instructor explained step by step how to begin and coached us through the helmet communication system. We felt safe and comfortable on the entire excursion. We went to a perfect area to efoil that was calm and with no boat traffic. It was our first time efoiling and we will definitely do it again! Thank you Key West Boat Trips!!

We had a great day doing the efoil lesson. It was not something I had ever done before but it was so fun and easy to learn. Pawvel was a great teacher and he had a helmet with a microphone on it so he can coach you when your away from the boat. The boat was also very nice too. At the end of the tour he rode around and took some go pro videos of my husband doing the foil board and sent them too me which was awesome. I would recommend this to anyone. It was a fun day !

Oh my goodness what a treat. And talk about going above and beyond the call of duty. Our weather situation was tenuous, but Pavel kept in constant contact with me throughout the day so we could find a window. And the tour itself was breathtaking. Mike is just the best. We saw the most beautiful spots and he was so accommodating and conscientious of our situation—special needs child. We had an experience we will always cherish! So so grateful!

To start we had called after a bad experience with a another boat rental service. Determined to have a good time and see the sights my fiancee and I called on a whim, we spoke to Pavel who was Amazing. He sent us over to his website and after we booked he sent us some directions and followed up to confirm. Pavel was incredibly nice and had us over to our boat captain quickly. We met captain scruffy who was also equally amazing. He had a fully stocked cooler with ice and music ready to go. He took us out to 2 amazing local sandbar which we loved, the boat ride out was so smooth and quick! We spent some time out on the sandbars swimming and our captain even took amazing photos for us at no extra cost. Captain scruffy had us out on the water for an amazing time and experience my fiance will never forget. If you're looking for a boat charter and to see some amazing sights and meet some amazing people, call Pavel and ask for Captain Scruffy. You won't be disappointed !

Captain Turtle was awesome! He has a vast amount of knowledge about the area and even taught me things about mangroves I had never heard, despite growing up around the things. His recommendation to change the itinerary based on weather conditions was perfect and allowed us to have an amazing outing despite the unfavorable conditions. I strongly recommend this charter instead of renting your own boat. 5 stars only because I can’t leave 10.

BEST sunset boat ride eve!!! Super last minute accommodations. Worked with us so we could have an amazing experience. Played music we wanted to hear. Took pictures for us so we can save the memory forever. I have been around boats all my life. Felt super safe!!! Great ride. Worth every single penny!!! So much better then getting crammed in with 100 other people. Felt like was going on a ride with friends. Did not feel like a tourist. Took the time to do whatever we asked. I had some technical trouble and even then was super helpful. Would highly recommend them for the future. Can’t give them enough stars!! Don’t go to anyone else. Offers night kayak tours as well. Will do that next time Thank you so much. Will be an experience my daughter and I will NEVER FORGET!! Thank you again!! Life is about living!! ❤️😃🚤⚓️

We took a sandbar tour with Captain Turtle, and it was the highlight of our trip! Captain Turtle was awesome. The boat was nice and clean, and a great size for our family of 4. We loved getting out on the water and seeing all of the gorgeous water. The ride was really smooth. We stopped at the Mud Keys and then Snipes Point. Snipes was our absolute favorite. Crystal clear water in a 360 view. Pictures don’t do it justice. If we return to Key West I’d do this trip every day! I highly recommend this as a way to get out on the water.

Hi, Capt. Pawel. We had a great day and Capt. Turtle is the best. We beached the boat on the sandbar about an hour west in the gulf and just swam and relaxed for a couple of hours. Weather was perfect and waters crystal clear. It beats being on a party boat especially in our Covid world. You should be proud Turtle represents you and runs a safe boat. His amicable character and colorful conversation was a bonus. Definitely will do again when back in the Keys. Thank you! PS sorry no photos as phone took a swim too, LOL!

We recently took a trip with Captain Turtle and had an epic time! Captain Turtle took us to Snipes Point (one of many sand bars to choose from). We had the option of going to a couple other spots, but decided to just hang out at Snipes since it was so perfect. It felt as through the sandbar was never ending. We are talking hundreds of yards of crystal clear waters. The ride out was about 45 minutes and was worth every second. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to get away for a few hours and enjoy a part of the Keys most tourists never get to see. We are already planning a trip back with our dog!

If you want a unique experience where you can take in nature through your senses then this is the trip for you!! We chartered Key West Boat Tours for a 4 hour trip on the water. Our captain, Pawel, was both experienced and knowledgeable and we felt very comfortable with him as our guide. His boat was immaculate and he was very caring in helping us in and out . Our first stop was through some mangroves - like a water trail and he explained how the mangroves filtered the seawater into freshwater. We then enjoyed a ride across the open water and went to Snipes point which is a sandbar where you can walk in knee high water to an island. My husband, sister and I enjoyed the time and the peacefulness of it all. As we were returning to the dock we saw dolphins and Captain Pawel was able to follow the pod for a while as they played and jumped in and out of the water. We could almost touch them they were so close to the boat. It was a lovely experience and one that I would do again with Key West Boats Tours with Pawel and recommend to anyone looking for something more than crawl on Duval.

Our family had an awesome boat trip with Key West Boat Trips and Captain Turtle. Me, my husband, 12 year old daughter and 71 year old parents all had a blast. Captain Turtle was very informative, personable and fun. He had a great play list and sound system, comfy boat, shade and sun both, and took us to swim and snorkel around sand flats and also gave us a guided tour through the mangroves. He even spotted a giant loggerhead turtle while we were speeding back, which we got to stop and watch. Also saw a bat ray, shark and lobster :) All around great experience, we highly recommend Key West Boat Trips!
